We take our patients’ health very seriously at Junction Dental Office in Toronto and Scarborough which is why we offer Oral HPV Screening to all of our patients.
What is HPV?
HPV stands for Human Papilloma Virus and is a very common virus that most people will contract at one point or another in their lives as a cold sore. There are many types of the HPV viruses, some more dangerous than others. Type 16 and 18 are connected to oral and cervical cancers. HPV can be detected, in its early stages through an Oral HPV Screening here in our Toronto and Scarborough offices.
How does the HPV Screening work?
Our dental professionals look for red and white bumps (lesions), warts, under the tongue and in the insides of the cheek and back of the throat. At Junction Dental offices in Toronto and Scarborough, we use the latest technology of fluorescent lighting to detect lesions that are not apparent otherwise. If lesions are detected, your doctor can perform a biopsy to see if the lesions are malignant. Oral HPV screening is a highly effective way to detect oral and cervical cancer in its early stages. People most at risk for HPV are those who are over 40 years, use tobacco, alcohol, and engage in oral sex. Common signs and symptoms of HPV are: White/red patches of tissue inside the mouth, a cold sore that does not heal, difficulty swallowing and pain or discomfort in the mouth. At Junction dental offices in Toronto and Scarborough, we perform Oral HPV Screening to detect and rule out HPV cancers early.
